1999 Championship

Parlapiano Powers Distance Sweep, Phoenixville Soars to Victory Again at Pioneer Track Championships

SPRING-FORD, PA – Phoenixville claimed the team championship at the 1999 Pioneer Athletic Conference track championship with a dominant 140-point performance, led by a deep and versatile squad that excelled across the sprints, distance, hurdles, and field events. Spring-Ford finished second with 102 points, while Great Valley (96 points) rounded out the top three in a fiercely contested meet.

The star of the meet was Tom Parlapiano of St. Pius X, who ran away with victories in the 1600m (4:20.3) and 3200m (9:18.9), the latter setting a meet record. Parlapiano also anchored the winning 3200m relay team, contributing points to St. Pius’s 4th-place team finish.

Phoenixville, however, showed unrivaled depth. Sprinter Chris Galli scored in the 100m, distance runner Chris Trill medaled in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m, and hurdler David Cain scored big points 110m and 300m hurdles alongside with a championship in the high jump. Field standout Jim Collins notched a meet record in the shot put (54’2”) and added key points in the javelin and discus. Pole vaulter Bret Wade also helped seal Phoenixville’s team edge by topping the vault at 12’6″.

Spring-Ford’s sprints and relays kept the home crowd energized, winning both the 400m and 1600m relays, while Frank Colden and Seth Williams put on standout performances in the 200m and 400m respectively.

In the field, Pottstown’s Kevin Yonas unleashed a massive 180’8″ throw to win the javelin, while Great Valley’s Marcus Ford-Bey leapt 43’7″ to win the triple jump in style.

Phoenixville Dominates Pioneer Athletic Conference Championship with Commanding Performance

PERKIOMEN VALLEY, PA – The Phoenixville Phantoms delivered a dominant performance at the PAC Track & Field Championship, racking up 134 points to claim the team title. With strong showings across sprints, distance races, and relays, the Phantoms left little doubt about their depth and talent.

Chris Trill showcased his endurance prowess, winning the 1600m (4:24.7) and finishing second in both the 3200m and 800m, contributing crucial points for Phoenixville. Meanwhile, in the meet’s most heated matchup, Louie Gibbs of Pottstown edge Perkiomen Valley’s Steve Gambone, in the 110 hurdles, taking the title (14.4) while winning the 400m (50.3). Gambone did bounce back and winning 200m, after starting the meet with a 300 hurdles victory.

On the field, Phil Washington of Pottsgrove soared to a meet record 22’11” in the long jump and also cleared 6’5″ in the high jump, establishing himself as one of the most dominant athletes of the day. Aaron Tyson of Pottsgrove also made his mark, launching a winning throw of 178’9″ in the javelin and taking second in the discus.

Phoenixville capped off its stellar day by winning the 1600m relay (3:31.1), sealing the team victory in emphatic fashion. Pottsgrove (62 points) and host Perkiomen Valley (57.5 points) rounded out the top three teams.

With several meet records shattered and multiple athletes excelling across events, the meet set the stage for an exciting remainder of the season.

Reynolds, Stairs Shine as Great Valley Repeats as League Champions

SPRING-FORD, PA – The Great Valley Patriots emerged victorious at the 1997 PAC Track & Field Championships, repeating as league champs, compiling 94 points behind dominant performances from sprinter Nick Reynolds and a deep relay squad. Pottsgrove (81 points) and Phoenixville (79 points) fought hard but fell short of the title.

Reynolds stole the show on the track, securing wins in the 100m (11.0) and 400m (MEET RECORD – 48.9) while also contributing to the winning 4x100m relay (MEET RECORD – 43.1). His 3rd place in the 200m may have been the meet’s most exciting race as fellow teammate Andy Rado and Upper Perkiomen’s freshman newcomer Teon Higgs all crossing the time at 22.7, with Higgs claiming victory. Reynolds’ versatility across sprint events solidified Great Valley’s standing atop the leaderboard.

Pottsgrove’s Ryan Stairs made his mark in the field, capturing the triple jump with a meet-record 45’10” and taking the long jump title (20’5”). His 20-point contribution was critical in Pottsgrove’s runner-up finish.

Phoenixville’s Tom Parlapiano dominated the distance events, winning both the 1600m (4:25.1) and 3200m (9:41.5), proving himself as the premier endurance athlete of the meet. Meanwhile, his teammate Barry Flicker (SPX), delivered the most eye-catching field performance with a javelin throw of 217’5”, setting a new meet record and outdistancing the competition by over 40 feet.

With a blend of sprint depth and key victories in relays, Great Valley’s depth proved too much for the field, capping a successful meet for the Patriots.

Reynolds’ 4 Golds Leads Great Valley to PAC Championship with Strong Performances on the Track

SPRING-FORD, PA – The annual PAC Track & Field Championship saw a thrilling display of speed, endurance, and power as Great Valley surged to the team title with 102 points, fending off a determined Phoenixville squad (88 points) and a competitive Lansdale Catholic team (82 points).

Nick Reynolds of Great Valley stole the show in the sprints, securing victories in the 100m (10.9), 200m (21.8), 400m (49.3), and anchoring GV’s 4x100m relay team. Winning 4 gold medals, in a feat that highlighted his sheer dominance on the track. Duffy Swantek of Lansdale Catholic was equally impressive in the distance events, winning the 800m (1:59.7), 1600m (4:22.9), and setting a meet record in the 3200m (9:29.9).

In the field events, Pottsgrove’s Ryan Stairs made his mark in the triple jump with a winning leap of 43’0.5”, while Pottstown’s Jerry Hargrove took home two golds in the shot put (48’3.25”) and discus (153’10”), proving himself as the meet’s top thrower.

With a dominant presence in the relays and standout performances across the board, Great Valley showcased its depth and talent to claim victory at this highly competitive meet.

Pottstown Reigns Supreme with 2nd Straight Track & Field Championship

PERKIOMEN VALLEY, PA – The Pottstown Trojans left no doubt about their dominance, amassing 135 points to claim the championship title in a meet filled with record-breaking performances and fierce battles for gold. Great Valley fought valiantly, finishing second with 117 points, while Phoenixville rounded out the top three with 93.

Leading the charge on the track was Mike Calhoun (Great Valley), who shattered the meet record in the 400m (49.1) before blazing to victory in the 200m (22.3) and contributing to a first-place 1600m relay team (3:27.3). Meanwhile, Joe Thorpe (Pottstown) was untouchable in the hurdles, winning both the 110m (15.0) and 300m hurdles (meet record – 38.7) while anchoring the 400m relay squad to gold (meet record – 43.3). Thorpe successfully defended his league titles, earning him meet MVP.

Pottstown received major points in a thrilling, nail-biter 110H race. All six competitors crossed the line in blistering one-second span, with Thorpe holding off his Pottstown teammates Jason Cole and Andre Dunkley, with Pottstown sweeping the podium.

In the field events, Pottsgrove’s Brian Bucholtz soared 22’4″ to win the long jump, breaking his own meet record, while his teammate Kyle McKearns dominated the throws, setting a meet record in the discus (154’6″) and adding a shot put victory with a 47’8″ mark.

One of the most thrilling contests of the meet came in the high jump, where Pottstown’s Jason Cole and Langston Watson dueled with OJR’s Ryan Costello putting on a jumping clinic. All athletes cleared 6’6″, tying the meet record and matched each other height for height as the bar kept rising. With the crowd rallying behind them, each competitor attempted 6’7″, but neither could quite clear the mark, resulting in another dramatic finish for Cole as he was awarded gold due to less misses.

With multiple meet records, dominant relay performances, and unforgettable head-to-head battles, this championship meet was one for the books.

1993 Championship

Pottstown Dominates Track & Field Championships, as Thorpe and Dennis Shine in Setting Meet Records

SPRING-FORD, PA – The 1993 Track & Field Championships saw an electrifying display of speed, endurance, and power as Pottstown High School stormed to victory, amassing 133 points to secure the team title. Led by standout performances from hurdler Joe Thorpe and jumper Langston Watson, Pottstown’s depth proved too much for the competition.

Phoenixville (88 points) and Great Valley (97.5 points) battled for the runner-up spot, with Phoenixville’s Jim Dennis delivering a record-breaking 400m dash (49.6) and leading the 1600m relay squad to victory. Meanwhile, Great Valley found strength in distance events, anchored by Aaron Meacham’s 1600m/3200m double win and Mark Finlan’s dominant 800m performance.

The meet featured multiple standout individual efforts. Joe Thorpe (Pottstown) put on a hurdling clinic, winning both the 110m (14.9) and 300m (40.5) hurdles while also leading his 4x100m team to gold. In the field events, Brian Bucholtz (Pottsgrove) soared to a massive meet record 21’4.5″ long jump victory while adding 2nd place in the triple jump. Bill Kott (Spring-Ford) also captured his 3rd straight 200m championship, just missing his meet record set in ’92 with a 22.2 victory.

Pottstown’s all-around depth, fueled by multiple event scorers, secured their title in commanding fashion.

Phoenixville Claims PAC Track & Field Championship with Commanding Win

SPRING-FORD, PA – The Phoenixville Phantoms dominated the 1992 PAC Track & Field League Championship, securing the team title with 146 points, well ahead of Great Valley (107.5 points) and Pottstown (79 points). With a blend of speed, endurance, and field event excellence, Phoenixville controlled the meet from start to finish.

The sprint events saw Sid Johnson (Phoenixville) tie the 100m meet record at 10.8, while Bill Kott (Spring-Ford) set a new 200m record (22.0). Kevin Ford (Pottstown) electrified the hurdles, setting a meet record in the 110m hurdles (14.3) and claiming the 300m hurdles (39.4). The pole vault record also fell as Talen Singer (Phoenixville) soared to 13’6.

Phoenixville’s depth was key, with Jim Dennis (400m winner, 50.3), Emerson Johnson (triple jump champion, 42’3.75), and the victorious 4x100m relay team (44.5). Great Valley also had strong performances, including Steve Lutz (discus, 132’1) and the 4x400m relay team (3:29.8).

Multiple meet records fell, including Bill Kott (Spring-Ford) in the 200m (22.4), Aaron Beasley (Pottstown) in the 400m (50.2), Kevin Ford (Pottstown) in the 300m hurdles (38.9), Brian Debnam (Pottstown) in the triple jump (44’7.5), Greg Faulkner (Spring-Ford) in the shot put (53’6), and Justin Wysock (Pottsgrove) in the pole vault (12’9).

Pottstown’s success was driven by Kevin Ford, who shattered the 300m hurdles record and played a crucial role in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay victories, and Brian Debnam, who dominated the triple jump, sprints, and relays.

Other top performers included Grant Berges (Great Valley), who tied the high jump record (6’4) and won the long jump (19’11.5), and Bill Kott (Spring-Ford), who set a new 200m record and placed high in the sprints.

With their depth and speed, Pottstown controlled the track and left little doubt about their championship pedigree.

Pottstown Claims League Title with Dominant Performance

PERKIOMEN VALLEY, PA – Pottstown High School delivered a commanding performance at this year’s league championship, securing the team title with 115 points behind standout efforts in both sprints and relays.

Keno Shawell was a key contributor, winning the 200m (22.8) and anchoring Pottstown’s victorious 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. Teammate Aaron Beasley dominated the 800m (2:02.3) and placed in multiple events, while Kevin Ford showcased his versatility with a win in the 300m hurdles (39.5).

In the field events, Greg Faulkner (Spring-Ford) set a meet record in the shot put (53’6”), while Jim Ford-Bey (Great Valley) shattered the triple jump record (42’11”). Grant Berges (Great Valley) tied the high jump meet record at 6’4”.

Owen J. Roberts’ Justin Poley was unstoppable in distance events, winning both the 1600m (4:27.5) and 3200m (9:48.1), while Justin Wysock (Pottsgrove) set a new meet record in the pole vault (12’9”).

With strong performances across the board, Pottstown edged out Great Valley (77.5) and Lansdale Catholic (74) to claim the championship title.
